"There's a touch of Pep in him", OM's head of football praises De Zerbi

Marseille are about to face Strasbourg in the opening game of the next Ligue 1 round on Friday night (9.45 pm) without their boss

"We talk until 2 am, often on video calls because the coach wants to see people face-to-face. At any hour," said Olympique Marseille's head of football and a former Juventus defender, Medhi Benatia, about his relationship with OM's head coach Roberto De Zerbi in an interview with Italian newspaper Corriere Dello Sport.

"Working with him is just exciting and stimulating; he lives for football, just like me."

However, that passion has cost De Zerbi the opportunity to sit in the Marseille dugout this Friday night against Strasbourg (9.45 pm). He was sent off in the dying minutes of Olympique's victory over Paris Saint-Germain last Monday.

So, his assistant Andrea Maldera will be on the touchline instead of the Italian.

"His passion is overflowing. You should see how he prepares matches. There's a touch of Pep Guardiola in him, but trust me, he's unique. He breathes football and he breathes life. In that order."
