Despite rumours of his potential return to Europe or a reunion with Lionel Messi at Inter Miami, the Brazilian decided to continue his spell with his boyhood club and stay in his homeland

The last day of 2025 brought us breaking news from Brazil - Neymar extended his contract with Santos until the end of 2026.

Despite rumours of his potential return to Europe or a reunion with Lionel Messi at Inter Miami, the Brazilian opted to stay in his homeland and continue his stint with his boyhood club.

Except for his love for Santos, Neymar's decision is largely driven by the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup and his desperate desire to return to the national team.

The Selecao boss, Carlo Ancelotti, had already stated that the 33-year-old could be on the team only if he played regularly and avoided injuries. At Santos, he'll have a guaranteed place in the XI, while the recent knee injury will keep him off the pitch for some time, but also resolve his medical issues.

As for the financial aspect of the deal, it's unknown, though the Brazilian Globo claims Neymar will cost the club as much as four or five other players in the squad combined.
