Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, 20, couldn't stand ugly racist chants of Brescia fans towards him during the Serie B clash

A racism scandal! That's the only way to describe the incident which happened during the Serie B tie between Brescia and Sampdoria. Not only a young African player was the victim of brutal racial abuse, but he was subsequently punished for confronting those abusers?!

Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, the 20-year-old Inter midfielder on loan at Sampdoria, faced horrible insults from the Brescia crowd at the Stadio Mario Rigamonti in Brescia.

The Nigerian youngster was targeted by the home fans, resulting in the game being briefly halted before he was booked by the referee for responding to the chants by imitating a monkey!?

Italian news outlet Tendenze Di Viaggio reported that the player made a report 20 minutes into the match.

"Akinsanmiro turned to the referee Massa to signal that he heard racist howls from the Curva Nord of Brescia. The situation required immediate intervention, with Massa deciding to temporarily stop the game. He invited the speaker of the stadium to launch a notice to the public, stressing that further discrimination behaviour could lead to the final suspension of the meeting," the outfit wrote.

Akinsamiro is a Remo Stars Academy product that joined Inter Milan in January 2023 on a permanent deal, signing a four-year contract. He was loaned to Sampdoria in July 2024 on a season-long loan, with an option to buy and a buy-back clause in favour of the Nerazzurri.
