Toney, you clever cheater! Bees' hero scores on his return as Brentford win a thrilling battle

Ivan Toney was banned for eight months for breaking FA's rules. And he nets from the free-kick against Forest that will be talked about...

Brentford striker Ivan Toney returned to football 259 days after his last competitive game on Saturday night in a 3-2 pulsating home win against Nottingham Forest. His eight-month ban from football for breaking Football Association gambling rules ended on Wednesday, so he was Thomas Frank's choice for starting striker and a captain against the Tricky Trees tonight.

And Toney made sure his return stayed in collective memory for some time. He netted superbly from a free kick in the first half, curling it past the wall, but the replay showed he cleverly moved the ball a few inches to the right along with the ref's spray.

This equaliser affected the match as the Bees bounced back after the visitors took an early lead.

Mee put the hosts in front after the break, but Nottingham Forest levelled the score through Wood shortly after. And just when it seemed we could be heading into a compromising draw, Maupay nailed a superb header following a corner from the left.

Brentford had previously lost seven of their past eight league matches, but thanks to this win, they leapfrogged Forest (and Crystal Palace) to reach the 14th place.
