Tottenham star takes the road less taken to end his boyhood club's 18-year-long title drought

Ivan Perisic is apparently close to returning to the Croatian side Hajduk Split that have been trophyless ever since 2005

In the dawn of their successful careers, many European players tend to look for a lucrative Saudi Arabian adventure. One of those deciding to take the U-turn is Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic, who recently joined Al-Nassr. Unlike him, his compatriot and Croatia teammate Luka Modric decided to stay at Real Madrid.

However, there's apparently a third, less taken road - the one that took their friend and Tottenham star Ivan Perisic.

The 34-year-old midfielder started his professional career with Hajduk Split in the 2005-06 season, with his side being a reigning champion at the moment. They lost the battle to their archrival Dinamo Zagreb (Brozovic's and Modric's boyhood club) then, and Perisic went to France to kickstart his career abroad.

Now, 17 years later, he's about to return home and help Hajduk return to the throne for the very first time after that 2005. Imagine that!

As per transfer specialist Gianluca Di Marzio, Perisic has decided to go all the way back to his roots after almost two decades of a highly prolific career.

"Perisic is close to returning to Croatia with Hajduk. He should terminate his contract with the Spurs soon in order to complete the move," wrote Di Marzio on Twitter.

If true, that would be quite a fairytale. Hopefully for Perisic, with the trophy in his hands in the end.
