Transfer limbo - Aston Villa want to steal Rashford from Barca and Man United

Aston Villa are looking to take advantage of the indecision at Barcelona and United to bring Marcus Rashford back into their ranks

Aston Villa are reportedly weighing up a significant move involving Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, whose future remains up in the air despite the 2025/26 season nearing its conclusion.

Rashford has spent the campaign on loan at Barcelona and has enjoyed a resurgence in Spain, contributing 13 goals and 13 assists in all competitions. That return is particularly notable given his injury setbacks and the competition for places alongside Lamine Yamal and Raphinha.

Barcelona hold a £30 million option to make the move permanent, but are reluctant to trigger it at that price. The Catalan club would prefer to negotiate a lower fee or arrange another loan, while United are standing firm and are prepared to bring Rashford back to Old Trafford if their terms aren’t met.

United believe there will be no shortage of interest in the England international and are even hopeful of driving the price above the current clause. Rashford’s preference is to remain in Barcelona, though ongoing uncertainty could ultimately force a different outcome.

According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, Aston Villa are closely monitoring developments. Manager Unai Emery is said to be keen on a reunion and is awaiting clarity from United before making a move. The Spaniard reportedly values Rashford highly and would be open to paying a fee to bring him back.

The pair previously worked together during Rashford’s loan spell at Villa last season, where he rediscovered form and built a strong connection with supporters. Should Barcelona walk away, Villa could once again emerge as a serious option.

Meanwhile, Manchester United turn their attention to a high-profile clash this Sunday as they host Liverpool.
