Troubles in paradise: Nuno on his way out of Forest, Ange waits for a call

Nottingham boss confirmed that his relationship with the owner Evangelos Marinakis is "not so well," hinting at his imminent departure, despite achieving outstanding results with the Trees

All good things come to an end. However, sometimes that end comes much earlier than expected because someone speeds up the process. If Nuno Espirito Santo indeed leaves Nottingham Forest soon, that "someone" will be the club's owner, Evangelos Marinakis, and we can only imagine how furious the fans will be.

These "troubles in paradise" started in May. Forest were in the middle of the battle for the Champions League and surprisingly drew 2-2 at home against the relegation-strugglers Leicester City. Marinakis got down to the pitch and started an argument with the manager in front of the entire stadium.

Three months later, things look better, but it's just on the surface. Espirito Santo's press conference earlier today showed what was truly happening at City Ground.

"I always had a very good relationship with the owner, last season was very close. This season, not so well. No, it's not [good]. I don't know exactly, but I'm being honest with you. I cannot say that is the same, because it's not the same. The reason behind it, I don't know."

"I always believe that dialogue and what you say or your opinion, is always valid, because my concern is the squad and the season that we have ahead of us, but our relations have changed."

"The reality is that it is not what it used to be. What it used to be was a good, respectful relationship, but was more based on trust and sharing opinions, and now it's not so good," the Portuguese said via Sky Sports.

Following such a revelation, a logical question was whether he was hinting at his departure from Forest.

"Where there's smoke, there's fire, so I know how things work, but I'm here to do my job. I understand, because I'm worried. I'm the first one to be worried. I'm the first one to be concerned," Espirito Santo said.

And to make matters worse, Nottingham's results weren't an issue at all. After his first 2023/2024 campaign in which the club survived, the 51-year-old gaffer led the Trees to arguably their best season in the last 30 years, securing participation in a European competition (UEFA Europa League) for the first time since 1995. But regardless, he's near the exit door.

Sources in England claim that Marinakis already has several candidates to replace Espirito Santo, one of whom is reportedly the former Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou.
