The Brewers have been inconsistent this season but may make a big statement in the title chase with a win over Batoto Ba Mungu.
The FKF Premier League match week 13 comes to its climax today, Sunday, 14 December, with a single match as Sofapaka takes on Tusker from 1500 hrs at Kasarani Annex.
Ahead of the afternoon clash, Police FC are still at the summit of the league with 21 points, one more than Gor Mahia, Kakamega Homeboyz, and Posta Rangers, all of whom are tied on 20 points.
Interestingly, all the top six teams, including Shabana and AFC Leopards, settled for draws in their respective match week 13 games.
The relegation zone equally consists of the same teams over the past weeks, as bottom-placed Kariobangi Sharks are joined by Sofapaka and Murang’a Seal.
Tusker, who are eighth on the log with 18 points, have an opportunity to go to the summit if they manage to win the match by a margin of three goals or more.
The Brewers have been inconsistent this season but may make a big statement in the title chase with a win over Batoto Ba Mungu.
The 12-time league champions will be encouraged by the fact that they come into this match on the back of two consecutive wins over Mara Sugar and Ulinzi Stars, respectively, easing the agony of two previous losses.
The match also provides an opportunity for the Charles Okere-coached side to register three consecutive wins for the first time this season.
Okere expressed confidence in his team emerging victorious, explaining the margins that could decide the game.
“It will be a very tough match against Sofapaka, who have an experienced coach and a good team, but I am satisfied with our preparations throughout the week.
It will be more of a psychological match, and we continue to prepare the team to be psychologically ready,” Okere told Tusker Media.
However, the former Harambee Starlets tactician is still well aware of the Sofapaka threat, having suffered a heavy 7-1 defeat in their last encounter.
Okere also announced the availability of Eric Kapaito, who will be expected to provide the attacking threat for the team.
For the 2009 league champions, this match once again provides an opportunity to exit the relegation zone, as a win would take them up to 10th on the log.
The Ezekiel Akwana-led side have borne the brunt of a mass exodus of key players at the end of last season, with the team struggling to find balance within their current squad.
