Hojlund netted both goals in Napoli's vital 2-1 victory over Juventus, and took them to the top of the Serie A

Two years ago, Luciano Spalletti etched his name in Napoli's history with golden letters, winning the Scudetto with the crew from the south for the first time after 30 years.

And even though the Neapolitans will never forget his impact and legacy, all that stays in the past as he returns to Stadio Diego Armando Maradona as an opponent.

Last night, the 66-year-old tactician came back to Naples leading Juventus and did not have a good time, as his men were sent home with two goals in their net, falling short 2-1.

The hero of Antonio Conte's team's win and the most deserving of the top Serie A spot Napoli holds at the moment was the brace-scorer, Rasmus Hojlund, whose goals in the 7th and 78th minutes sealed the deal.

Juve's only memorable moment was when they levelled in the 59th minute, through their best player this season, Kenan Yildiz, but even at 1-1 against a somewhat shocked rival, they were more focused on defending the draw than chasing the winner, and it eventually backfired.

The crowd at the packed Stadio Diego Armando Maradona probably wondered at some point during the first half where the visitors were and why they had not come to the match, as Napoli were the only team in control of the game.

Already in the sixth minute, Scott McTominay had a massive chance, and even though his header went narrowly wide of the post, it was clear the Neapolitans would set their dominance. And only a minute later, they broke the deadlock!

David Neres escaped Teun Koopmeiners over the right flank and crossed the ball inside the box, where Rasmus Hojlund skilfully placed it into the net, putting the home team in front.

If anyone expected Juve's response, they could not have been more wrong, as Napoli's pressure continued, and nearly brought them the more comfortable lead at the break, but the keeper Michele Di Gregorio and luck were on the Bianconeri's side, depriving Giovanni Di Lorenzo and McTominay of finding the net.

The Neapolitans continued their spree of missed chances with McTominay's 55th-minute free kick, which sailed just right of the post.

And just four minutes later, the punishment for all the wasted opportunities came, embodied in Juventus' best player Kenan Yildiz, as the Turk seized the first chance the visitors created in the whole match, firing the close-range effort into the bottom-right corner of Vanja Milinkovic Savic's goal - 1-1!

The leveller undoubtedly shocked Antonio Conte's crew, as they allowed the Old Lady to anaesthetize their attacks, slow the rhythm, and kill all the energy the match carried during the opening hour.

However, the Neapolitans' confusion lasted only until the 78th minute, when their "fox in the box", Hojlund, exploited a poor reaction of Juve's defence following a cross, and smashed the ball into the net from close range with a powerful header, making it 2-1!

This time, there was neither time nor strength among the Bianconeri to make another comeback and salvage at least a draw.

This time, the Dane definitely sealed the deal, taking Napoli to the top of the league, and leaving Juventus in seventh position.
