Even though United and Betis agreed on the transfer terms, the Brazilian rejected the proposed salary reduction, causing his transfer to the La Liga side to fall through

When the forward Antony, who had been paid €95 million, left Man United and joined Real Betis last January, the Red Devils' fans were thrilled, thinking they had finally got rid of one of their biggest flops.

And even though the Brazilian somewhat revived his career, recording respectable numbers of nine goals and five assists with the La Liga side, not many United supporters wanted him back. Luckily for them, Betis were willing to keep him, and Antony's permanent move to Estadio Benito Villamarin was practically a done deal.

And then everything fell through! The reason? According to The Athletic, €4 million!

First and foremost, United agreed to a price of "only" €25 million plus €3 million worth of add-ons, and 50% of the next transfer. However, when it came to Antony's salary reduction, he rejected it!

Namely, he earned €7 million per year at Old Trafford, while Betis could give him "just" €3 million. Then, the player demanded that the two parties somehow cover the missing €4 million, but neither Betis nor United are willing to do so.

Hence, Betis have begun their search for an alternative, and unless Antony changes his mind soon, he'll be forced to stay at United, which will benefit neither himself nor the club.
