Andoni Iraola announced that he will step down in May
Since the first day he was appointed as Manchester United’s interim manager, Michael Carrick is being assessed by his players, former colleagues, former teammates, fans and the executive board. His results are impressive so far but the cloud of doubt remains over his permanent appointment in May. The clubs bosses are also terrified of making another mistake in managerial search, so everybody is just being tight-lipped. But today, another highly regarded coach just made himself available from June.
Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola will officially step down as a coach at the end of the season.
“It has been an honour to manage AFC Bournemouth and I am proud of what we have achieved together. I’m thankful to the players and staff that I’ve worked with, as well as Bill, who have all made my time here so special. As for the fans, you have continued to show your fantastic support to myself and the team, and for that I will always be grateful. I feel this is the right moment for me to step away, but I will always carry fantastic memories of this club” said the Spaniard for the club’s website.

Since his appointment, Bournemouth delivered a record points total of 56 in 2024/25 and are currently only three points off sixth place.

The Cherries did everything possible to keep Iraola but he will try his luck with a bigger club next season. The question is certainly is which club will it be, but Manchester will certainly test the waters, no matter how good Carrick is currently is. Iraola made Bournemouth a force to be reconed with during the last two seasons, and had some great victories against top 5 clubs even thou he was faced with losing key players every season. Apart from Manchester, his former club Athletic Bilbao is also looking to lure him back to Spain and Iraola is reportedly very interested to get back to his roots, but the final decision has not been made yet.
