Van Dijk to Haaland: ‘Fu***ng hell, you broke my finger’

When Erling Haaland identified Virgil van Dijk as the best player in Netherlands squad ahead of the World Cup qualifying match with Norway, he didn’t meant to hurt him, just to defeat him. He did ended up hurting the player, and even scored for Norway, but the game finished 1-1, and the consequences for the Dutch captain were not that bad – only a dislocated finger. But it did hurt.

During the second half, Van Dijk had to receive treatment on the sidelines after a collision with Haaland. The Norwegian explained what happened during his post-match interview, stating the Dutchman told him he ‘snapped’ his finger on his left hand.

'I actually snapped his finger on him. I do not know how it happened. He just said "f***ing hell, you broke my finger". He's good, so to speak,' he added. 'I have no idea how I snapped his finger. That's just the way it is” the 21-year-old said to Norwegian outlet TV2.

Luckily enough for Van Dijk, it was ‘only’ a dislocated finger, and he just had to step to the sideline for his finger to be popped back into place immediately by medical staff. Having successfully finished the game in Oslo, Van Dijk is expected to play against Montenegro and Turkey over the next seven days regardless of the injury. 

It’s sure to say it wasn’t Virgil van Dijk’s day yesterday, since he, after the dislocated finger, was forced to push away an intruder as he was giving a post-match interview. He was interrupted by an intruder, presumably a fan, who tried to give him a hug as he was speaking. Van Dijk was not having any of this, and just pushed the fan away.
