The striker says he wants to go straight into coaching after retirement

Veteran striker Ezekiel Odera plans to play for one more season before bringing his playing career, which has lasted for over a decade, to an end.

The left-footed striker is for the second time set to leave Simba Wa Nairobi after the conclusion of the 2022–23 season, and initially, it was thought that he would call it a day, 13 years after making his top-flight debut with KCB FC.

The player, however, has other plans, as he says that he targets one more season before ending his goal-laden career.

"The 2022–23 season was to be my last, but things did not go as I had planned, and I think I will play for at least one more season, after which I will call it a day," the 35-year-old told Mozzart Sport.

The player revealed the main reason for postponing his retirement. He says he wants to complete his CAF C license in his final playing season before turning to coach after attaining the mandatory CAF C license that all top-flight and second-tier coaches must have to handle teams in Kenya.

"I want to get into coaching after retirement. I have earned my CAF D badge, and next season, God willing, I will earn my CAF C, and once the season concludes, I will retire and transition into coaching. I want to have a license that allows me to coach in the Premier League," he added.

On his next trip home, Odera is confident that he will find a new club.

"I am confident that I will find a team to play for. I have made a name for myself over the years, and I do not think that finding a team will be a big problem for me. Coaches know what I can offer on the pitch, and I am looking forward to next season with a lot of positivity," he added.
