Former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama will not make any further appearance in this season’s CONCACAF Champions League tournament.

This is after his CF Montreal side was bundled out of the tournament by Mexican side Cruz Azul who went through to the semifinals of the draw following their 1-2 aggregate win after the second leg match played on Thursday morning at Montreal’s Saputo Stadium that ended in a 1-1 draw.

Prior to the return leg fixture, the game was well poised in Cruz Azul’s favour as they held a 1-0 advantage gotten from the first leg that Montreal had to overturn if they were to advance to the next round at the expense of the Mexican sides.

In the matchday squad, Wanyama was included in the starting eleven tasked with the job at hand as he was also handed the captaincy role to steer the team through the match.

However, after keeping out Cruz Azul for the opening action-packed fourty minutes, Montreal succumbed to a lapse in concentration on the stroke of halftime as Uriel Antuna, who scored the winner in the first leg, gave the opponents the lead in the 44th minute after making a first-time connection with an Angel Romero cross into the area that found him in acres of space with no markers by his side.

Now trailing by 0-2, Montreal got their foot on the gas pedal as they went in search of anything that could help them to a comeback.

After relentless pressure, Rudy Camacho pulled one goal back with eleven minutes left on the clock as he rose highest to head in a Joaquin Torres cross into the box after a short corner routine.

That however just proved to be the only chance they got as Cruz Azul firmly held onto the slender lead as they knocked out Montreal.
