Vihiga United have all but signed Kisumu All Stars attacking midfielder Erick Otieno
Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) returnees Vihiga United are edging closer to acquiring Kisumu All Stars attacking midfielder Erick Otieno. Vihiga have been silent in the player transfer market from the time the window swung open, but the County Government sponsored club is gearing up to claim its first recruit.
Vihiga head coach Sammy Okoth admitted that Otieno’s brilliance caught his eye during the KPL/FKF playoff in November last year and has since kept close tabs with the player christened as Otile. Okoth revealed that Otieno had spent the last one week with them and was looking forward to the completion of the negotiations between the two clubs.
“We have been chasing Otieno from the time we played All Stars in the playoff. He is a talented player whom I believe will solve our midfield problems. He has trained with us in the last one week and hopefully, the paperwork will be completed soon,” said the former Zoo FC coach
Besides pursuing Otieno, Okoth opened up of his plan to sign additional five players to beef his squad ahead of the grueling second leg league matches. The retired Harambee Stars player who regretted missing the opportunity to spot raw talents in the festive season football tournaments in the Western region said he was eyeing to strengthen all the departments.
“We are looking at the possibility of signing at least five more players as the second leg matches will be tougher. We did not sign new players in the past transfer window since we were fully focused on returning to the top flight. Injuries and fatigue are slowly creeping in and unless we inject new blood in the squad, then we will get it rough. I am hoping to strengthen all the departments particularly the midfield,” he disclosed.
Vihiga United will rest this weekend as they did not register for the FKF Cup. Their next league match is against Kariobangi Sharks on Thursday 18th February in Mumias.
