Morocco will now play the best third-placed teams from either group B or C in the quarter-final while second placed Senegal will face the winner of Group B.

A solitary goal for Morocco against Senegal courtesy of Ghizlane Chebbak from the spot saw the hosts clinch the top spot in Group A of their 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

Heading into the game, both teams had already booked their tickets to the knockouts of the competition and were out to settle the first place, with Morocco emerging top eventually.

Morocco had a perfect record in the group stages, winning all their group matches to finish with maximum nine points while Senegal finished with six, falling only to Morocco.

Morocco were awarded a penalty 10 minutes into the second half after Senegal's defender Salimata Ndiaye was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box, with VAR's intervention, and Chebbak dispatched the spot kick perfectly to break the deadlock.

Neighbours Uganda exited the competition without recording a win after being held to a two-all draw by Burkina Faso in the other match at the Mohammed V Stadium.

Uganda opened the scoring after just eight minutes through Margret Kunihira but Adama Congo drew her side level just after the half-hour mark. Sandra Nabweteme reclaimed Uganda's lead three minutes after the equalizer but Naomi Adèle Kabré canceled the advantage with four minutes left in the first half.

With the result, Burkina Faso and Uganda finished third and fourth in that order, with Uganda having an inferior goal difference at the bottom of the group.
