The Basque White-and-Blues have solved the left-back issue
Real Sociedad are meticulous in preparing for the Champions League. The Basque club confirmed another sound reinforcement - Scottish left-back Kieran Tierney arrived from Arsenal on loan without the option to buy.
The Scotsman came to Arsenal four years ago from Celtic for 27,000,000 euros, but apparently he did not convince Mikel Arteta that he is a long-term solution along the left touchline. Arsenal's left-footed defenders remain Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jakub Kiwior, and the Pole is not even a classic left-back.
Last season Aihen Munoz and Diego Rico shared minutes at Real Sociedad in the position of left back, playing about twenty games each, but coach Imanol eventually decided to bring reinforcements and the club decided on Tierney, whose minutes in London decreased. The Spaniards will not have the option to buy because Arsenal asked for an exorbitant 30,000,000 euros.
Regardless, Tierney's arrival will mean a lot in the fight on three fronts, among which is the Champions League. Real Sociedad will be in the fourth hat of the draw and will represent a 'landmine' from the 'weakest' pool. This summer, the club from San Sebastian lost David Silva, who ended his career due to a serious injury, and Alexander Sorloth, who left for Villarreal. Experienced Asier Illarramendi has moved to the MLS and that's it for the major departures.
The other important names were retained, and as for other arrivals - the Portuguese forward Andre Silva from Leipzig, the super-talented Russian midfielder Arsen Zakharyan from Dinamo Moscow and the experienced right back Hamari Traore from Rennes joined the Basque club. By the end of the market, Alvaro Odriozola could also return from Real Madrid. Whoever shares the Champions League group with Sociedad should beware - the White-and-Blues seem stronger than last season...
