Wazito tie down midfield sweeper to another season

Football Kenya Federation Premier League side Wazito FC have handed a contract extension to highly rated defensive midfielder Fidel Origa ahead of the 2021/2022 league season that is scheduled to commence on 25th September.

Having had their best ever top-flight season in the 2020/2021 campaign with their ninth-place finish under head coach Francis Kimanzi, the Ricardo Badoer funded outfit have already set in motion plans to retain the services of players who were an integral part in their high achieving season yet.

Origa, who attracted interest from record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia signed on the dotted line to extinguish any swirling rumours that he might be lured into the cash strapped 19-time champions. Apart from Origa, defender Maurice Ojwang who has been impressive ever since being preferred to former captain Bernard Ochieng at the heart of defense was also handed a contract extension.

Opinion dividing striker Michael ‘Wise’ Owino completes the trio that have been handed a chance to continue their stay at the club.

In a statement on Wednesday morning, Wazito announced the contract extension of the three players that will cover the 2021/2022 season.

“We can confirm that Fidel Origa, Michael Owino and Maurice Ojwang have renewed their contracts with the club. The three, who joined us before the start of last season, will continue with us heading to the 2021/22 campaign that starts at the end of the month,” the statement on the club’s website read.

“I want to congratulate the three gentlemen for signing their contract extensions. By committing to continue with us it means that they believe in the project and we are delighted to have them on board heading into the new season. I am looking forward to an exciting season ahead,” Wazito Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dennis Gicheru stated.
