Wellington emotional after returning from four-month injury layoff

Ochieng slotted in at midfield in Tusker's 1-0 loss to Homeboyz on Thursday.

Former Gor Mahia defender Wellington Ochieng returned to action after a four-month injury layoff and penned an emotional post giving thanks to those instrumental in his road to recovery. 

Ochieng started in Tusker’s 1-0 loss to Kakamega Homeboyz on Thursday, taking to the field for the first time in four months after a niggly knee injury.

The defender revealed that emotions ran high after playing his first game in a while and went on to thank a number of people who supported him during the difficult period. 

“God of many chances I give thanks to the chance to enjoy what I love doing after four months out with a knee injury, on Thursday I was so emotional I clocked my first 70 min and counting.

To my teammates and friends and my Coach and his technical team thank you all for the support and confidence you people gave me throughout till today, my family too you people are my MVP,” said Ochieng. 

The former Wester Stima defender was slotted in an unfamiliar midfield position in the loss to Homeboyz and was subbed off in the 70th minute for Humphrey Mieno. 

Ochieng was also thankful to the club and also included the medical team that ensured he returned to top fitness after the injury. 

“Tusker FC I give thanks to the support throughout the hard time and my medical team led by Dr Mbugua Performance Kenya and the bazuuu Cymba Health I celebrate you all," added Ochieng.
