West Ham drop two points against plucky London rivals Crystal Palace as Everton stroll to win against Brighton

Michail Antonio and Pablo Fornals drive the Hammers to a fine performance, but two cheaply conceded goals give Patrick Vieira's Eagles an unlikely point

Pablo Fornals scored in back-to-back games for the first time in a West Ham United shirt to keep his team in the Premier League top spot as the Hammers draw with Crystal Palace. Michail Antonio provided the goods once more as he combined with the Spaniard well and opened the space for the former Villareal player to find the unguarded net.

It was all going perfectly well for the Hammers, but then, out of nothing, Patrick Vieira's men got back into the game with their first chance. Wilfried Zaha delivered a cross for Christian Benteke. The big Belgian rose the highest but the ball fell nicely for Conor Gallagher to squeeze the ball into the net.

The drama was far from over at London Stadium. Antonio got his compulsory goal on 68 minutes with a fierce left-footer as the Hammers' celebrations found a new level of noise. But they could hardly believe their eyes when that man Gallagher equalised again, virtually from the restart. For all their domination and fine football, West Ham were still locked in a draw.

It was the old story of one team doing all the right things and seemingly control a match completely only to see lapses of concentration let the opponents score from the run of play. The Hammers remained top of the Premier League table on goal difference ahead of Everton but could surrender it if Chelsea win at Anfield later on Saturday.

Richarlison argues with his teammates because he wanted to take a second-half penalty kick during Everton's win in Brighton. With the score 1-0 to Rafa Benitez's men, Seamus Coleman was taken down in the Seagulls' box and the red pointed to the spot. That's when the real drama began! Brazilian striker Richarlison, who was heavily linked to Paris Saint-Germain in recent days, grabbed the ball determined to take the resulting spot-kick. Coleman and Andros Townsend had to make the former Wolves goalscorer leave the ball to Everton's designated penalty taker Dominic Calvert-Lewin. With Richarlison fuming on the edge of the box, the Calvert-Lewin dispatched the penalty with confidence to double the lead and complete the win for Toffees. Despite the win and the points won on the south coast, the main talking point will be Richarlison unprofessional behaviour on the pitch. Was this his last sighting in an Everton shirt?

Newcastle and Southampton were locked into a rather uninspiring 45 minutes, but their match sprung into life after the break and turned into a real thriller. Callum Wilson opened the scoring for the Magpies after a neat cross from Jacob Murphy, but their lead didn't last long. Newcastle have kept only two clean sheets in their last 25 Premier League matches at St James' Park and Mohamed Elyounoussi made sure the Magpies conceded here again. The Norway international carried on his fine goalscoring form from the EFL Cup and levelled for the Saints. Just as the match seemed to be heading to a dull draw, Newcastle's influential winger Allan Saint-Maximin popped up in injury time to seemingly give the black and whites their first win of the season. However, former Newcastle youngster Adam Armstrong won a penalty that was converted by James Ward-Prowse deep in injury time to make it 2-2.

Leicester City got their win at Norwich in a tight match in which Jamie Vardy grabbed the opening goal and the assist for Marc Albrighton's winner. Teemu Pukki got his first goal of the season from the spot, but it wasn't enough for the Canaries to avoid defeat at Carrow Road.

Over at Villa Part, Brentford's dangerous striker Ivan Toney scored a fine goal to give the Premier League newcomers an unlikely lead early on but were denied by a sizzling 16-metre finish by Villa's recent recruit Emiliano Buendia. It was the best the Villains could do as the brave visitors went ahead looking for another goal. However, they all had to settle with a 1-1 draw.
