We've seen some strange match-ups, but twins' FA Cup clash is something else

This will be a unique, once-in-a-lifetime afternoon for the Sessegnon family.

Twins Steven and Ryan Sessegnon will face each other as Wigan Athletic hosts Premier League side Fulham in the fourth round of the FA Cup (6 pm).

Their parents, Bridgette and Desire, won't be there to watch the game, unlike their older brothers Chris, Yannick and Richie.

"My mum and dad get nervous just watching one of us play," Steven Sessegnon told BBC Sport. "I don't think they will be able to handle both of us on the same pitch at the same time."

Interestingly, both Ryan and Steven made their senior Fulham debuts before turning 18 on 18 May 2018. Ryan, who is about 20 minutes younger than Steven, left Fulham in 2019 to join Tottenham, before returning last year.

Steven made 19 first-team appearances for Fulham - the majority of them in the EFL Championship - before joining Wigan in August 2023.

Now, he admits it will be a "once-in-a-lifetime" moment if he does get to play against his twin.

Still, he rules out swapping shirts after the game for one simple reason...

"If I wanted his shirt, I could just call him and get one sent over. Exchange shirts? I don't think that's going to happen," laughed Steven, before concluding:

"We speak a lot on the phone. He's got a one-year-old daughter and I love being on the phone with her and him."
