A painful season for Man United as they finished second in both Premier League and in Europa League. Club believes new signings will take to the next step.
Current circumstances led most teams to financial problems - those who are not in trouble will try and take advantage of that and buy big names from teams which badly need money.
We can expect such an approach from Manchester United who are after some big names in order to finally overthrow their sky blue city rivals and also impose as competitors for winning the biggest European trophies.
Usual suspect for Man United - Jadon Sancho. United are frontrunners for the young Englishman, whose previous 153 million USD (16.5 billion KSH) asking price has been dropped by Borussia Dortmund. United are keen not to pay more than they have to and will do their best to negotiate a lower number. They are now increasingly confident they can finally get a deal over the line.
According to The Athletic, United have now begun negotiations with Dortmund over Sancho's services and have been given hope that the German outfit will accept a lower asking price this time round.
Additionally, the Old Trafford side are working on a deal for Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane. Frenchman is a serious target at centre back – a problem position for United at times this season – and only has a year left on his contract at Santiago Bernabeu.
Manchester Reds also want to reinforce their options on the flanks. Therefore they will try and get Kieran Trippier from Spanish champions Atletico Madrid. They see him as competition for Aaron Wan Bissaka who has given solid performances during the past season.
Trippier has two years left on contract but cash-strapped Atletico are open to offers. Everton is also interested in the England right back.
'If you want to take up the challenge with them we need to strengthen our squad.' Unite manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said last month.
'Congratulations to them. They've had a fantastic season but I'm very pleased with my boys that we have made it to the last 10 days with a City side ahead of us that are lauded as the best in Europe.
'We want to take the next step and it might be that we need a couple more to strengthen the squad.'
Solskjaer is keen on a bringing more options to his ranks to close the gap on Manchester City at the top of the Premier League and better the performances in the Champions League.
United finished second and were knocked out in the group stage respectively this season. Another big disappointment for the Red Devils was the devastating loss to Villareal in the Europa League finals.
