Italian businessman has a new project
Whenever a company has problems, someone will see that as an opportunity. In this case, the company is called Unione Calcio Sampdoria, and that particular someone is Andrea Radrizzani, the owner of Leeds United.
The Italian businessman arrived at Sampdoria's training facility today to continue discussions over a potential takeover of the already-relegated Serie A club.
The entrepreneur made a binding offer for the club and offered to put $60 million into the accounts right away, with an additional $20 million available in the future. He is working with colleague Matteo Manfredi and local businessman Jordan Rocca to broker a deal for taking over the club from the city of Genoa.
The 1991 Scudetto winners have been struggling financially this year and must pay off obligations, including $14.6 million in overdue player wages, by 30 May. They might not be able to sign up for Serie B for the upcoming season if they are unable to settle the accounts.
On Monday, Radrizzani arrived at Sampdoria's training centre in Bogliasco, the municipality near Genoa. Reporters quizzed him about his chances of assuming control of the club, to which he briefly responded: "Let's hope so, fingers crossed."

Sampdoria have had an abysmal season in Serie A, recording only three wins in 36 games so far. They are rooted to the bottom of the table and have already been relegated, but those are minor problems compared to what could happen if the debt isn't addressed and Samp aren't allowed to compete in the second tier.
