Fernandinho lands in Brazil to sign a deal with his boyhood club Atletico Paranense

There ain't too many of his ilk on the market anymore. Loyal, devoted, consistent. Three clubs (Atletico Paranense, Shakhtar Donetsk, Man City) in the entire pro-career.

At the age of 37, Fernandinho decided to quit his 17-year-long European stint and return back home to Brazil, where it all started in 2002. His boyhood club Atletico Paranense provided the impeccable midfielder with that crucial, breakthrough chance almost two decades ago, and he's grateful for it. So, now, when plenty of other South American clubs offered him more money than Atletico, the former Man City go-to guy had no dilemma - it's not about the money, but the gratitude.

After nine years at the Etihad, Fernandinho, as captain, lifted the Premier League trophy and said goodbye to the English club.

A year ago, Pep Guardiola somehow convinced him to extend the contract for another year, but this time the 37-year-old was firm in his decision to return to both his homeland and his boyhood club.

He arrived in Curitiba on Sunday night, where he will undergo medical. However, he couldn't sign the two-year contract before July 18, when the transfer window opens in Brazil.
