De Zerbi's men came from behind thanks to Aubameyang and Murillo's late goals and now sit at the top of the Ligue 1 table!

This Marseille team has guts, and sometimes that's all it takes to become a champion! Four days after upsetting the UCL winners Paris Saint-Germain, Roberto De Zerbi's men came from behind to beat Strasbourg on the road and take the leading position in the league - 2-1!

After a relatively dull opening half, fireworks started almost instantly after the break, as Abdoul Outtara put Le Racing in front in the 51st minute. Mason Greenwood and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang came off the bench shortly after, and the latter equalized in the 78th minute.

The visitors were more courageous and went for a winner, and it paid off in the 91st minute when Michael Murillo netted a priceless goal!

Both teams' confidence was high ahead of tonight's clash. Strasbourg were at the top of Ligue 1 alongside Paris Saint-Germain, Monaco, and Olympique Lyon, while Marseille - although three points behind the leading quartet - beat PSG for the first time in the league since September 2020, which significantly bolstered their self-esteem.

Even though Roberto De Zerbi left his two arguably best players, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mason Greenwood, on the bench, his team dominated the game since the first referee's whistle, with Amine Gouiri being their most dangerous player.

On the other hand, Strasbourg initially opted for counters, and two such situations could have easily brought them an opener.

In the 17th minute, the home team's captain Emanuel Emegha scored, but was offside, while three minutes later, Valentin Barco hit the side netting from close range.

On the other hand, despite possession advantage and pressure, Marseille's best chance was Gouiri's free-kick strike midway through the first half, which Chelsea loanee at Strasbourg, Mike Penders, skilfully deflected, so the rivals were level at the break.

Yet De Zerbi had more reasons to worry, given that as many as four of his men were booked in the opening 45 minutes.

Six minutes after the break, Strasbourg experienced a deja vu, as Abdoul Outtara's opener was disallowed, again for Emegha's offside. However, VAR room intervened and changed the decision, so Le Racing took the lead!

In the 54th minute, Gouiri once again found himself in a massive chance and once again, the Algerian reacted poorly, showing that he was nowhere near Aubameyang's level. Minutes later, Marseille's bench took action and subbed in the Gabonese as well as Greenwood.

The duo initially failed to bring anything to L'OM, as the home crew was well-organized in defence, but Auba's pure quality came into the spotlight when it was the most essential, as the 36-year-old levelled in the 78th minute! Penders stopped his initial effort, but couldn't save his team from the rebound.

Following the equalizer, Olympique's pressing became immense, as De Zerbi's men desperately went for a winner. Greenwood had a decent chance, Strasbourg's Joaquin Panichelli answered on the other side, but this derby clash was decided in added time.

Marseille's fighting spirit paid off in the 91st minute, when the visitors completed a priceless comeback! Benjamin Pavard crossed the ball into the home team's box, Robinio Vaz's header crashed against the bar, but Michael Murillo was in the right place at the right time to smash the ball into the net and bring his team a vital victory!

This way, L'OM leapfrogged Strasbourg (even though they are level on points) and now top Ligue 1 - at least until Lyon, PSG, and Monaco (who all have the same number of points) play their games. Still, Marseille are on the magnificent run and this team could finally be ready to properly enter the title race.
