Arsenal climb to the top of the table with a dramatic late victory
Arsenal made the most out of Manchester City's draw with Liverpool and claimed the Premier League's top spot with a dramatic 1-0 win at Brentford. The result in itself perhaps wasn't so surprising as the identity of the match-winner. Kai Havertz, the person whose only contribution this season has been to make other teams' fans laugh, has finally come up with the goods. The German scored a late, late header to send the Gunners top.
Was it a deserved victory? Probably not. Did the away fans at the Brentford Community Stadium care? Absolutely not!
Both teams' substitutions didn't make a notable impact in the second half, and Arsenal's frustration was evident. However, moments later, Zinchenko displayed his defensive prowess by making a crucial goal-line clearance, reminiscent of Declan Rice, to deny Neal Maupay's goal-bound effort. One substitute did prove impactful, though. Havertz scored the all-important goal just ten minutes after coming on.
Mikel Arteta played Aaron Ramsdale in goal because David Raya's wasn't eligible to play against his parent club. Ramsdale lost the ball to Yoane Wissa at one point, but Declan Rice cleared off the line. It was obvious Ramsdale wasn't full of confidence, but despite everything, he remained unbeaten in this game. Havertz scored the winner from Bukayo Saka's cross. Arsenal are now at the top of the Premier League and Brentford received their second home defeat of the season.
