Despite being among the biggest stars of the ongoing European Championship, the Les Bleus captain is focused on political turmoil in his homeland

France kickstart their EURO 2024 campaign tomorrow evening against Austria. However, some 24 hours before the start of the match, their top star, Kylian Mbappe, talked about politics and almost nothing else?!

The captain of the two-time world and European champions said that the upcoming elections in his homeland are of great importance. He tried to inspire young people to come out and vote against the extreme right.

The new Real Madrid footballer never mentioned the name of Marine Le Pen or her party. However, it is clear that everything negative he said was related to her politics.

"We are at a key moment in the history of our country. The European Championship is important in our careers, but we are citizens like everyone else and we are not outside the system, outside what is happening in our country," said Mbappe. "This is an unprecedented situation, and we are the generation that determines the fate of France. We know that we are threatened by various extremes. I invite everyone to vote, to be aware of the situation. We have to identify with our values. I hope we will succeed".

When asked to explain in more detail what he meant specifically, Mbappe said:

"I think many people are not aware of what is happening. I am trying to wake up people of my generation... They say that politics and sports should not be mixed. Okay, but in situations like this, politics is more important than any match, even tomorrow's. Our country is in a difficult situation. I am against any division. My values are respect and tolerance".

French president Emmanuel Macron dissolved the parliament and new elections will be held on June 30 and July 7.
