The 23-year-old on Saturday completed his move to English League One side Bromley after a stellar season in the National League

Wealdstone Chairman Rory Fitzgerald says the club cannot hide its disappointment, following its decision to let go of Harambee Stars defender Deon Woodman to English League One side Bromley FC on Saturday, 11 July.

As per Fitzerald, Woodman, 23, presented so much potential for Wealdstone, and his transfer, despite hurting, should act as a blueprint to promising talents, of the club’s ability to create great pathways.

"There's no hiding our disappointment at losing a player of Deon's promise," Fitzgerald, who joined Wealdstone’s board of directors in December 2017, said in a statement attached to Woodman’s move to Bromley on an undisclosed fee. "But I'm just as keen to see this as a reminder to our players, supporters and us as a Board that we're able to create great pathways for young, aspiring talent.”

Woodman, who made his Harambee Stars debut on 7 June against Lesotho, had been a Wealdstone player since 2024, the year he permanently signed for the club following his brief spell there on loan from previous side Queens Park Rangers.

Shortly after his signing, Wealdstone sent him out on loan to St Albans City during the 2024/25 season, before reintegrating him back to the set-up at the beginning of the recently-concluded 2025-2026 campaign.

During his latest spell, Woodman showed his immense improvement and strength in central defense, featuring 51 times for Wealdstone in all competitions, including a start at Wembley Stadium in The Isuzu FA Trophy Final.

At the same time, the former youth player at Crystal Palace scored two goals, and provided two assists in his 40 National League appearances last season.

Commenting on the Kenyan’s swift progress, Fitzgerald added that his time at the club should act as a reminder of its potential to identify talent, and create exciting futures.

"Deon's signature for us two years ago should remind everyone of our club's great ability to identify potential, and move quickly to secure players we believe can give great service to Wealdstone while, at the same time, create exciting future possibilities for their personal careers," Fitzgerald said.

In their club statement, Wealdstone said it had ‘reluctantly accepted’ an offer from Bromley, and it is not easy to see why.
