Omalla reveals reasons for his slow start of life in Sweden

Harambee Stars forward Benson Omalla has promised to score goals at will should Linkoping City coach coach Carlos Banda deploy him as a centre forward rather than a wing back going forward.

Omalla who joined the Swedish third tier club this month after finishing his high school studies is uncharacteristically yet to find the back of the net in the two matches he has been involved.

He attributes the slow start of life in Sweden to Banda's efforts to transform him into a midfielder, a department he says he is unfamiliar and uncomfortable in.

With Linkoping set to travel to Trollhattan on Saturday, the former Western Stima player however promises to open his goal account if the Swedish manager will change his mind and play him in his preferred area of operation which he notes opened him the opportunity to go professional.

The former student at Kisumu Day High School made his debut at the club coming in as a substitute during their 3-1 loss to Qvidinng FIF and was in action last weekend when they played Ljungskile to a one all draw.

Omalla who admitted to have played as a centre back in the formative years of his career regretted Banda's decision to play him as a wing back saying it would slice his chances of earning a call up to the national team.

" The reason I haven't scored is the coach prefers to use me as a wing back, a department I have never played in before. I will reward him with goals the day he will use me as a centre forward. I have requested him to play me in my favorite position in our next matches. Everyone knows me as striker and deploying me elsewhere slows my progress and even may see me lose my place in the national team, " he said.

Meanwhile, Omalla revealed the role Stars left back Eric 'Marcelo' Ouma who plies his trade with top flight side AIK has been playing in helping him settle in Sweden.

He said the former Gor defender who is understood to have attracted interest from top European leagues has been encouraging him through their frequent communication.

"Marcelo checks on me every now and then. He encourages me to keep working hard and remain disciplined. Although our paths are yet to cross here, I am looking forward to meeting him and even watching him play for AIK," he added.
