Woeful Spurs send shy Milan into the UCL 1/4 finals

Reading Time: 2min | Thu. 09.03.23. | 01:22

Goalless draw in London, another 90 mins of dreadful football and lots of reasons to celebrate for the Italians

It doesn't get more Spurs-eish than that. Faced with a one-goal deficit ahead of the return leg against AC Milan, Tottenham fans hoped for a furious riposte at their ground, but instead, they are eliminated from the Champions League after 180 minutes of football (1-0 on agg), during which they didn't score a single goal.

On the other hand, Milan are in the quarter-finals for the first time since 2012, although Rossonerri were far from impressive in both legs.

Hanging onto that 1-0 lead on aggregate, the Italians displayed a decent defensive approach, rarely engaging on the other side of the pitch. Still, they managed to create much more chances than the hosts, with Junior Messias missing the only opportunity in the first half.

Giroud and Diaz were also close to scoring after the break, but the only true drama and thriller were seen in the ultimate minutes of the game. First, Harry Kane launched one of his trademark headers a few seconds into stoppage time, but Milan's keeper Maignan reacted superbly to deny that effort. The ball swiftly moved to the other end, and Kenyan star Divock Origi missed a wonderful chance to kill the entire tie as his shot ended on the left post.

The match ended with 0-0 on the scoreboard, and the visitors - seven-time European champions, celebrated a strange, yet deserved overall victory.
