WPL: Bungoma Queens eye first away win as Bunyore face Madira test

Bunyore are second on the log and a win takes them top of the table albeit overnight before Sunday's action

This weekend’s Women Premier League (WPL) action has Zetech Sparks hosting newbies Bungoma Queens at Ruiru’s Imani Stadium from 11 a.m.

The encounter will see the varsity side looking to get back to winning ways after playing for a one-all draw against Madira Soccer Assassins last weekend as the visiting Bungoma chase their first away win.

Coach Robert Machio is hoping to guide his side to what would be their first win on the pitch, seeing as their first three points came off a walkover handed by the troubled Trans Nzoia Falcons, who were a no-show for last weekend’s encounter at Sudi.

“This is the first time we are playing Zetech in the league, but we are not going in blind. We had the opportunity to play them in last year’s Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Women’s Cup, a match we lost 4-1.

I am, however, aware that we will be up against a slightly different squad as some of their players have left. My team has prepared well, and we are here to compete for that away win,” Machio offered.

Elsewhere, last season’s runners-up, Gaspo Women, are away in Mumias, where they take on Wadadia FC. The side is coming off a 2-0 loss to champions Vihiga Queens and will be keen to get back to winning ways.

They face a wounded Wadadia who are yet to record any wins in the four matches played so far, having lost 3-1 in their last encounter against Police Bullets.

Meanwhile, Bunyore Starlets, second on the WPL log, are looking to continue their fairytale start when they take on Madira at Mumboha Stadium.

The hosts have won three of their four matches, while the high school girls have won once and drawn once in the two matches played.
