Gor Mahia interim coach Zedekiah Otieno claimed he was unaware that the match against Posta Rangers would be his last before Sinisa Mihic's appointment as the new head coach, set to take effect next week.

The league champions secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Posta on Saturday, with the winning goal coming in the 9th minute of stoppage time.

Gedeon Bendeka opened the scoring for Gor Mahia, but Felix Oluoch equalized for Posta Rangers. Deep into added time, Harambee Stars defender Alphonse Omija netted the decisive goal, sealing the win for the reigning champions.

The build-up to the match was overshadowed by the revelation that Otieno, who had served as the club's interim coach since November 2024, would be stepping down.

Otieno, popularly known as Zico, took over from Brazilian Leonardo Neiva. Despite a decent run under his leadership, the team's inconsistent performances prompted the decision to bring in a foreign coach.

In his post-match interview, Otieno expressed surprise at the news of his replacement, advising journalists to seek clarification from the club chairman or CEO, as he had not received any official communication.

You’re talking about rumours. Do I need to answer that? The right people to talk to are the chairman or the CEO. I haven’t been informed of anything,” Otieno remarked.

If everything goes as planned, Croatian coach Mihic will take charge of his first match against Tusker FC next Saturday at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos.

Mihic has mostly worked as an assistant coach but brings experience from Africa, having been an assistant at Sudanese side Al-Merrikh in 2009 and at Libyan Premier League club Al Nasr in 2010.

He last served as an assistant coach for Kuwaiti side Al Salmiya SC and has had head coaching stints at Croatian third-tier club NK Crikvenica, Al Shabab (Kuwait), and Al-Fahaheel SC.
