Kenya faces face Australia on Monday in final pool match at noon EAT, with hopes of securing a spot in the knockout stages
The Kenyan Hockey 5s men's national team experienced a rollercoaster of emotions on the opening day of the FIH Hockey 5s World Cup in Muscat, Oman, with a win and a loss.
In the first match against New Zealand, Kenya delivered a commanding performance, securing a convincing 6-1 victory.
The early minutes saw Danstone Wabwire putting Kenya in the lead, and captain Ivan Ludiali extending the advantage in the sixth minute.
Sheldon Kimtai joined the scoresheet in the 8th minute, but New Zealand's Bell-Kake Jakob managed to pull one back in the 9th minute.
Kenya continued to dominate in the second half as Moses Ademba found the net in the 22nd minute, completing his brace with the final goal in the 28th minute.
Richard Wanganga contributed to the victory by scoring the fifth goal.
However, the second encounter against Trinidad & Tobago painted a different picture, ending in a 7-2 defeat for Kenya.
Marcan Teague's remarkable hat-trick and goals from Pierre Mickell and Vieura Jordan secured the win for Trinidad & Tobago, with Marcan Tariq adding another goal.
Kenya's resilience was reflected in the efforts of Ludiali and Moses Loise, who managed to score two consolation goals.
With one win and one loss, the Kenyan team currently stands at a crossroads in Pool C.
Tomorrow, they face Australia in their final pool match at noon EAT, with hopes of securing a spot in the knockout stages.
