A total of 14 clubs are participating in the league, divided into two pools of seven teams each.
Coach Edward Gitau, the man who 'fished' Wafalme Stars' and Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) opposite attacker Peter Kamara from Netflix at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) hostels to the volleyball court must be smiling down on the young man from heaven as the 25-year old has landed a professional deal.
Kamara who signed for the Mombasa-based club in January 2021 is headed to Bahrain where he will feature for top-tier league side Nabih Saleh for the 2022-23 season that served off on 1 November 2022.
The player was officially introduced to volleyball in 2016 by the late Gitau, who also served as a referee in the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) league until his untimely demise earlier this year after an unfortunate road accident as he came from officiating league matches at Nyayo Stadium.
Gitau who served as the volleyball coach for the varsity side, in an interview with Daily Nation few months ago, narrated how Kamara loved movies so much and had little care for the sport, that the tactician had to go fetch him from the hostels every training session.
The renowned coach, cum referee saw something in the lanky attacker that even the player didn't see in himself.
Even after Kamara joined KPA under coach Sammy Mulinge, Gitau maintained that the player was headed for a pro-deal, a prophesy that has come true.
A quiet figure on and off the court, Kamara who was signed by coach Mulinge to replace Wafalme Stars skipper Enock Mogeni who at the time had landed a professional deal in Sweden (currently with Oita Miyoshi Weisse Adler team in Japan) emerged from his predecessor's shadows and was a key part of Mulinge's title-chase campaign last season. KPA finished second behind General Service Unit (GSU).

Kamara's first professional stint will see him play in the new Bahrain Volleyball League that served off at Isa Sports City Multipurpose Hall in Riffa on Tuesday, 1 November 1.
A total of 14 clubs are participating in the league, divided into two pools of seven teams each. They comprise Al Ahli, Al Najma, Nabih Saleh, Bani Jamra, Alshabab, Maameer and Etehad Alreef in Pool A.
Pool B consists of Al-Nasser, Dar Kulaib, Muharraq , A’Ali, Al Tadamon, Busaiteen and Al Dair.
Teams will compete in the pool round-robin preliminaries. Top three teams from each group will qualify to Isa bin Rashid League, with the remaining eight teams relegated to BVA League.
At the previous season, Al-Ahli Bahrain reigned supreme, while Al Nasser picked up silver medal. Dar Kulaib and Al-Najma finished third and fourth places respectively.
