NIko Kovač's men need a win today in order to stay competitive with Bayern for the title
Hoffenheim is without a defeat in 2026. In fact, they are on a five-game winning streak and are travelling to Munich on Sunday. The current Bundesliga champions have managed a defeat and a draw in their last two games and have cut the advantage over Borussia to just six points. If they fail to win on Sunday and BVB comes back from Wolfsburg with all three points, the title race will be back on! But Niko Kovač is facing some injury problems ahead of today’s game in Wolfsburg. His team really needs a win order to keep up with the Bavarians but it will be difficult without these two players.

The first one is the captain, Emre Can. The former German international is sidelined for the time being with adductor problems, even though he played against Inter in the Champions League, but the club finally found out the seriousness of his injury – he is probably out until February. Can already had problem with osteitis pubis at the end of the last season. It was difficult to treat, so he didn't make his comeback until the end of October. This time, according to BILD, it's supposedly not the same injury, but the club remains silent. Can is considered a team leader and the authority in the locker room. He scored some important goals (like against St. Pauli) and he is incredibly precise from the penalty spot. His last miss was 12 years ago in the Regonal League. With another injury to his name, he is in serious personal trouble. Can is currently 31 years old, with a contract expiring in May and an injury record.
The second blow is the team’s most valuable offensive player – Karim Adeyemi. Although his absence is still not confirmed, the various German newspapers have already reported that he finished the training session but wasn’t in the team bus, which headed to Wolfsburg. So far this season, Adeyemi has amassed eleven scorer points in 28 competitive matches and Kovač will have to find ways to get on the scoreboard without him.
