At the Police Sacco Stadium, FKF Premier League side Murang’a Seal cruised into the round of 32 with a ruthless 9-1 demolition of fourth-tier newcomers Kahawa Pride in an early kick-off encounter.
It was a baptism of fire for Kahawa Pride, who were featuring in their first-ever domestic cup competition since inception.
The Nairobi-based side, hailing from Kahawa West, found the step up brutally unforgiving against a vastly superior and well-drilled Murang’a Seal outfit under the guidance of head coach Osborne Monday.
Seal signalled their intent early in a one-sided contest played at an electrifying pace.
Victor Haki set the scoreboard ticking, scoring inside the opening ten minutes, heading home to set the tone for what would become a long afternoon for Kahawa.
'Choir Master' Lucas Maina then doubled the advantage moments later, calmly finding the back of the net as Murang’a continued to pile on the pressure.
Haki struck again after the quarter-hour mark to register his second of the afternoon before captain John Kiplangat unleashed a thunderous strike to make it 4-0 and hand Seal a commanding lead heading into the break.
Murang’a made three changes five minutes into the second half, with Paul Ngugi, Michael Owen and Kiplangat making way for Pkiach Thadeus, Michael Macharia and Geoffrey.
The substitutions paid immediate dividends as Macharia made an instant impact, netting the fifth goal shortly after coming on.
Haki then completed his hat-trick with a clinical finish to further underline Seal’s dominance.
More changes followed as Joe Waithera and Yusuf Ali were introduced for Haki and Telvin Maina.
Macharia soon grabbed his second of the match to extend the lead, before Yusuf and Waithera rounded off the scoring to complete a comprehensive 9-1 victory for the St Sebastian-based side.
