His opponent was a former World Champion back in 2011.

Kenyan boxer Michael Ogundo put an end to his four match losing streak in style by upsetting former world champion Lamont Peterson in the fourth round in the Gervonta Davis-Hector Luis Garcia undercard at Capital One Arena.

Ogundo who boasts of a decent record of 17 wins 16 losses with 14 of the victories being on knockouts faced Peterson who was making a comeback after over three years of inactivity.

The former world champion fought for the first time since Sergey Lipinets stopped him in the 10th round of an April 2019 bout at MGM National Harbor in nearby Oxon Hill, Maryland.

Peterson’s return turned sour in the fourth round after his corner men threw in the towel after the 38-year-old took a severe beating that left him in a poor physical state.

Ogundo who was raised in Kibera, Nairobi turned on the style towards the end of the third round before finishing his opponent after two minutes and five seconds in the fourth round via a knockout.

Peterson had started showing early signs of fatigue in the third round as he resorted to holding Ogundo with a right hand punch in the fourth round leaving his opponent on a heap.

Back in December 2011, Peterson edged England’s Amir Khan by split decision to become a 140-pound world champion.
