With the win for Elisha Aliwa's side, they now take control of Pool A, where they are also set to face Gambia and hosts Ghana

Kenya men’s volleyball side Wafalme Stars marked their return to the African Games with a bright start after securing a 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-16) victory over Chad in a Wednesday afternoon game staged at the MUH Multipurpose Hall in Ghana.

Wafalme Stars were making a comeback to the Games having made their last appearance in 2011, where they emerged third best, winning bronze in Maputo.

And after missing out on the 2015 and 2019 editions, The East Africa nation, led by first time head coach Elisha Aliwa, who was promoted to the role after Gideon Tarus took leave on professional ground, came out guns blazing, securing the first set 25-16, before squeezing out in the second to take it out 25-22.

The third set wasn’t any different to the first, and ended in the same fashion - 25-16 - and with it, a first win in the games since beating Rwanda by a similar margin in 2011.

With the win, Kenya now take control of Pool A, where they are also set to face Gambia and hosts Ghana.

Meanwhile, Kenya’s duo of Jairus Kipkosgei and Elphas Makuto failed to advance in the semifinals of the men’s beach volleyball after losing out 2-0 (21-12, 21-16) to South Africa’s Leo Williams and Danilo Von Ludwiger.

In the women’s quarter final, Kenya's Gaudencia Makokha and Yvonne Wavinya lost to the Egyptian duo of Marwa Magdy and Doaa Tawfik in straight sets of 2-0 (21-18, 21-12) to miss out on a chance to improve on their silver medal finish in 2019.
