Alliance Girls, Mang'u crowned Central Region Secondary Schools swimming champions

Top performers will represent the region in the upcoming national championships in Machakos next month
Alliance Girls and Mang’u High School were over the weekend crowned champions of the 2024 Central Region Secondary Schools Sports Association (CRSSSA) Swimming Championships held at Mpesa Foundation Academy in Thika.
The two schools, representing Kiambu County, scooped their individual categories scoring 879 and 829 points respectively, results that meant that Kiambu topped the combined team scores with 1788 points.
Nyeri and Murang’a counties came in second and third, scoring 833 and 733 points, as Kirinyaga and Nyandarua completed the five county standings.
Among the schools representing the aforementioned regions include: Nyeri High, Kianyaga, Mpesa Foundation Academy, Nova Pioneer Tatu City, Kahuhia Girls, Leshao Boys, Nyahururu Elite, Nyahururu High, Mt. Kenya Academy, Juja Preparatory and Murang’a High School.
Among the individual high performers were Emmanuel Mayamba of Kiambu, who dominated the 16 and over boys’ category with 40 points.
He on the route to the title clinched the 50 SC Meter Freestyle and Backstroke events in a seed times of 29.48 and 37.56 respectively.
Naima Mugoya of Nyeri county on the other hand won the overall girls’ category, hitting 34 points thanks to her exploits in the 100 SC Meter Freestyle, where she won in a final time of 1:27.72.
Those, plus other remarkable performances witnessed on the day - including a series of personal best times - sets a high bar for the upcoming national championships in April in Machakos.
In a concurrent event happening in Mombasa, national team swimmer Maria Bianchi - representing Mombasa County - dazzled in the Coast Region Schools Championships, winning the 200m individual event, while setting a personal and national best time of 32.32 in the 16 and over 50m butterfly event.
In Kiambu, the winners of various categories were handed trophies and swimming gear (specially branded silicone swim caps) from Genesis Sports Limited, a notable sports equipment supplier in the country.
Also in the event, it was announced that one of the schools - Kianyaga High School - would benefit from a half-Olympic sized swimming pool bestowed by H.E. Rigathi Gachagua, an alumni of the institution.
Slated for launch on 20 March 2024, the strategic investment promises to catalyze the growth of swimming in the Central Region, projecting it onto the national and possibly international stages.
