The rise now leaves her 99 places out of making the cut for the Summer Games in Paris
Kenyan tennis star Angella Okutoyi has gained 22 places on the latest Women’s Tennis Association standings, a development that is set to provide a big boost to her last-minute rush for a valuable spot at this year’s Olympic Games.
In Tuesday’s recent update, the 20-year-old is now ranked a career-high 498th in the world, improving from her previous best of position 520, which she held all through her last singles tournament in Bethany Beach, Delaware last week.
The incredible rise presents a unique position for Okutoyi, as she strives to make the cut for the Olympic Games in July.
As per the International Olympic Committee guidelines, Okutoyi needs to be in the top 400 positions by June 10 to make the Paris Games, and now stands closer than ever to achieving that historic feat.

Currently at 109 points, the African Games Champion needs 50 points to be ranked between positions 390-400.
The other reprieve for Okutoyi, is that with three weeks remaining, she remains with three tournaments in which she will use to climb higher the standings.
Her first adventure will be this week at Monastir, before wrapping up with two La Marsa championships (W35 and W50) in Tunisia from 27 May to 3 June.
Okutoyi will hope to make deep runs in the trio of tourneys after failing to get past the quarter-finals of three separate events since April.
First, the 2023 Kenya Open champion suffered a first-round exit in Charlottesville, before dropping out in the last-eight in Florida and Bethany Beach.
