Kenya need to win against the West Africans to confirm their spot in the promotional playoff match against Pool B winners

The penultimate day of the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup is here with us as hosts Kenya try to get the job done by finishing in top spot.

The Francis Rogoi coached side need to win against the West Africans to confirm their spot in the promotional playoff match against Pool B winners.

Anything less than that will need mathematical permutations to determine top spot where Kenya, Moroccc and Nigeria all have a chance of clinching.

Angella Okutoyi first on Court for Team Kenya where she faces Adesuwa Osabuohien from Nigeria.

The Kenyan girls creates two break points and successfully uses the to take the first set 6-2.

Although she only had a 62% first serve success rate, Okutoyi took all thirteen points on offer that came with it. That's 100% efficiency compared to Adesuwa's 75% success rate that led to winning 9 of the 12 points.

Okutoyi starts the second set as strong as she was in the first and breaks twice to go 3-0 ahead.

Another break gets Okutoyi 5-0 up and now she's serving for the match.

After 49 minutes, the Kenyan girls completes the dominant win as she hands Kenya the advantage with her 6-2, 6-0 victory.

The fans certainly loved that performance from Okutoyi.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba, a section of the men's national rugby 15s side Kenya Simbas among those in attendance.

Kenya now head into the remaining two matches needing only one win to confirm top spot. Will they pull through?

Cynthia Wanjala to face Barakat Oyinlomo in the second Singles match.

Barakat comes out of the blocks firing as she capitalizes on Wanjala's inaccuracies to take the first set 6-0.

Out of the first serve points won, Wanjala only managed to take two out of the available eight (25%) compared to Barakat's 7/8 (88%).

Barakat never faced any break point in that set as she took three of the four she created for herself. Set 2 to come but looking likely that the powerful hitting Nigerian will not be stopped.

Barakat holds serve and breaks Wanjala to take a quick 2-0 lead in the second set.

Wanjala finally manages to get into the game as she breaks back immediately for 2-1 much to the approval of the Kenyan crowd.

She however fails to draw level as Barakat breaks again to go 3-1 ahead and a chance to open the gap further.

A pumped Wanjala again breaks Barakat's serve to make it 3-2 but again she cannot hold serve and the Nigerian responds to take a 4-2 lead.

This time, Barakat keeps her nerves in check and manages to hold her serve for 5-2.

She backs it up by breaking again in the roller coaster game and wins the second set 6-2 to drew the tie level 1-1.

Crucial match for Kenya in the Doubles as they need to win if they are to have any hopes of promotion to the Euro/Africa Group II.

Okutoyi and Wanjala will play while Barakat will return and will pair up with Divine Nweke.

Both teams hold serve in the opening three games but it is Nigeria who draw first blood to break on the fourth game for a 3-1 lead.

They break again in the sixth game for a 5-1 lead and manage to take the set 6-1 after holding onto their serve.

The advantage for Nigeria puts Kenya in a precarious position as they need to force the game into a deciding third set.

Team Nigeria ask questions on the opening game in Set 2 but Kenya manage to hang on after fending off four break points.

The Nigerians hold and break in the third game to go 2-1 ahead

Team Kenya try as much as they can to get back but nothing can stop this well oiled machine as they do the necessary to win the set 6-2.

The result sees Kenya miss out on top spot on matches won. The hosts have won 9 wins while Morocco have 11 wins.
