The curtains came down on the 2025 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games with Kenyan giants Cheptil and Kimilili leading the celebrations after clinching the boys’ volleyball and handball titles respectively in dramatic fashion.

The final was a classic seesaw affair, with Namgongo drawing inspiration from their talisman William Opwoya, whose dominant display at the net earned him the tournament’s MVP award. Cheptil, however, rallied from a two-sets-to-one deficit to snatch victory 3–2 (25–21, 23–25, 17–25, 25–21, 15–9).

In the bronze playoff, Bukedea from Uganda swept aside defending champions St. Luc from Burundi in straight sets (3–0) to clinch third place.

On the girls’ side, Kenya’s Kwanthanze maintained their iron grip on the title with yet another dominant display, dethroning defending champions Kesogon in a repeat of last year’s final.

After dropping the first set, Kwanthanze stormed back to claim a 3–1 win (23–25, 25–22, 25–13, 25–18), underscoring their status as queens of consistency in East African volleyball.

Sulumeti bagged bronze after defeating Soweto 3–1 in a hard-fought encounter (24–26, 25–14, 25–18, 30–28).

In handball, Kimilili Boys proved their mettle in a nail-biting 31–30 victory over Rwanda’s Adegi to capture their second FEASSSA title. The match, played at high intensity, went down to the wire as the Kenyan champions showed nerves of steel in the closing minutes.

The third-place playoff saw Highway defeat Uganda’s Mbogo 28–26 to ensure two Kenyan teams on the podium finish.

Moi Girls Kamusinga also delivered for Kenya in the girls’ handball final, edging Mbogo 26–25 in another thriller to claim their second regional crown.

In basketball 5x5, Ugandan sides dominated as St. Noa Girls were crowned champions after defeating compatriots St. Mary’s Kitende. Butere Girls of Kenya settled for bronze.

Kenya also stamped its authority in rugby 15s, where Kisii High School powered to the regional crown, beating All Saints to secure first place. Uganda’s Jinja SS completed the podium.
