Chilo calls for improvement ahead of new KHF season

Nairobi Water Queens are the reigning league and Super Cup champions.

Nairobi Water Queens skipper Gladys Chilo says their scoreline against Ulinzi Sharks in the Super Cup decider match played on Sunday is cause for worry.

Previously, Queens' dominance has been intact, barely threatened as arch-rivals National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) slowly begun to diminish.

In the last season and onto the pre-season tournament, the Super Cup, Ulinzi Sharks have, however, emerged as a threat to Queens' throne and the captain says it is time to go back to the drawing board and re-strategise.

In the title decider, Sharks recovered from a seven-goal deficit in the second half to come to within a goal of equaling the score as the soldiers lost 29-28.

"We delivered well in the first half and the first fifteen minutes of the second half. However, the scoreline is cause for worry as we have previously won this match-up comfortably.

This could only mean that they have found a way to beat our plays and we have to go back to the drawing board and work on our attack and defense," offered Chilo.

The skipper also believes they have work to do when it comes to their endurance especially at the tail end of matches while at the same time stressing the importance of having more playmaker in the team.

"We have to diversify our tactics on attack. Sharks managed to stop the specific players who start our moves on attack and that paralysed the rest of the team and that means we need to work on new ways to execute on offense.

We do not feel really threatened by the scoreline but it is a wake up call to keep getting better and not to allow any complacency just because we have been dominant," added Chilo.
