Commonwealth Games: Team Kenya athletes receive brand new kits ahead of departure

Games set to kick off on Friday next week

The National Olympic Committee of Kenya on Thursday evening handed over the official Nike Team Kenya Kitt to athletes ahead of the Commonwealth Games to Birmingham.

NOC-K first Deputy President Shadrack Maluki, Treasurer Eliud Kariuki and Deputy Chef De Mission Shoaib Mohammed presided over the kit distribution.

The exercise was to ensure that all athletes and officials receive all the items they need ahead of the games kick off on 29th July 2022.

Speaking during the exercise Shadrack Maluki wished success to the team as they prepared to depart from 22nd July to Birmingham and spelled out the significance of wearing the Kenyan colors

“The wearing of national colors during international championships is such a prestigious thing. You have earned it as athletes through hard work. We present to you this range of kit/uniform so that you step out there in your patriotic duty and make us proud.” he said.

We wish you every success and we will be there, as we have been, to ensure you do not lack anything necessary for your excellent performance.” he added.

Everyone in Camp is looking ahead with positive anticipation to land in the competition stage and give Kenyans a thrilling and great performance. The team has been very cohesive during the nearly 45-day Residential Camp and we are happy as a Commonwealth Federation Association to have assembled such a fantastic and broad team.” he said.

He also explained why the teams are leaving in small groups.

"We are sending the teams to Birmingham in small groups because we want to minimize exposure to Covid as much as possible," he revealed.

Siteny Thierry Randriana NOC Madagascar President and the elected president of the African Judo Union, who’s also in the country visiting the Kenya Judo Federation also presented the kits to the Kenyan team.

“Sports is a unifying factor and I’m so amazed at how the Kenyan team is so ready and prepared. I want to wish them all the best, Kenya is well known in sports and we shall be cheering them as they represent Africa.”

The General Team Manager, Samson Katam who was also in attendance wished the team the best of luck as they continued preparing and leaving for Birmingham.

A total of 123 team Kenya members received their kit
