Michael Karanga is leading the KAGC series with 670 points ahead of John Lejirma who has 429. Both missed out on points in the weekend action.

Kiambu Golf Club’s resident golfer, Elvis Muigua, beat a field of 60 players who had registered for Kakamega Sports Club leg of the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) series held on the weekend.

Muigua carded a total of six over par 222 in the three rounds at the par 72 course to take top honours ahead of Nandi Bears’ Elly Barno and Godfrey Nsubuga who finished six shots behind the stellar performance of Muigua.

The Kiambu golfer had a horrible start to the championship in Kakamega, carding eight over par 80 after picking eight bogeys, a double bogey and just two birdies but recovered for an impressive one over par 73 in the second round.

He picked three birdies on the day, one in the par five hole one where he picked birdies in all three rounds, with the other two coming in the par five tenth and 16th. He also halved his bogeys to just four.

Muigua seemed to be growing into the championship as, in the final round played on Sunday, the golfer returned a two under par 69 score after collecting seven birdies in a round he only dropped four shots for the final tally.

The performance sees the youngster move third on the KAGC rankings, having gone into this leg in fifth.

Barno carded 76, 74 and 78 over the three rounds for 12 over par 228 to tie for second place with Uganda’s Nsubuga who had rounds of 76,71 and 81 for a total of 12 over par.

John Timbe was fourth with a total tally of 230 as Golf Park’s duo of Josephat Rono and Sammy Mulama tied for fifth after a 16 over par 232 performances across the three days. 2021 winner Nelson Koech carded 235 for ninth as defending champion John Lejirma was disqualified.

The event counted for the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points while also contributing to the KAGC and Club Trophy Rankings.
