NOCK Secretary General Francis Mutuku said in a statement that badminton players will now be allowed to take part in tournaments.

The National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) has announced a significant breakthrough to end squabbles in the badminton federation will long-standing elections scheduled for August 25 this year.

More significantly, NOCK Secretary General Francis Mutuku said in a statement that badminton players will now be allowed to take part in tournaments.

“All these were a culmination of players’ petitions through NOC-K Athlete Representative Humphrey Kayange as they were losing out. We intervened and after a sitting by the council of the Badminton World Federation, they advised on an administrative process for the Entry of Players,” said Mutuku.

He revealed that the meeting, attended by prominent figures in badminton administration, athletes, and representatives from the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K), shed light on the challenges faced in the past and outlined a roadmap for progress.

Mutuku further said that a committee was constituted to spearhead the roadmap toward normalcy. “This committee will play a pivotal role in registering players, clubs, and counties, aiming to establish a comprehensive registry within the sport. By ensuring all players are duly registered, the committee intends to facilitate player representative selections exclusively from registered players, fostering a fair and inclusive decision-making process.

The committee will distribute different drafts of the constitution, encouraging stakeholders to provide their input. Subsequent meetings will aim to reach an agreement on the final constitution, guided by compliance with legal mandates and the expectations of the Badminton Federation.

An election, scheduled for August 25th, is poised to bring stability to the Badminton Federation, enabling players to compete and proudly represent Team Kenya,” the statement further read

The interim committee will be chaired by John Ogolla, who is currently the Secretary-General for the Weightlifting Federation.

Badminton Kenya is currently facing a ban from the world body due to wrangles in the federation.
