The highly anticipated eLigue 1 Tour tournament is finally on the cards.

Sunday 26 February will present a unique opportunity for registered Kenyan gamers to take part in a FIFA 23 competition that rounds up as the eLigue 1 Tour Tournament – one that will land winners a fully paid trip to Paris, France in a bid to face off stiff competition in the Global eLigue 1 Tour Finals.

The eLigue 1 Tournament is making a return into Kenya for the third time in its history and is courtesy of the French Ligue 1.

Index G Esports, Kenya are the organizers of the competition and have confirmed that over 586 FIFA 23 gamers will take part in the ultimate battle set to be staged at the Alliance Francaise, Nairobi.

The competition is set to start at 8 am up until 5pm when the tournament winners will be announced.

In a statement, IndexG Esports CEO Ronny Lusigi appreciated the support of Ligue 1 Uber Eats – the event’s rights holder while also expecting a huge turnout come Sunday.

“This competition is the first international esports event in Kenya’s esports calendar and we are looking forward to a high turnout and high-level competition,” Lusigi said. “All the top seeded gamers have registered and we also see the rookies seeking to challenge the established gamers.”

Among the top seeds on Sunday will be Elia ‘Stylz’ Onchari, Evander ‘Viera’ Maina and the defending champion Luony ‘Fox’ Teat.

Some of the standout rookies will involve the trio of Telki Tradeli, Abdul Razak and Makuer Matur.

To ensure seamless operation, Lusigi confirmed that due to the high number of active registrations, the organizers had to cut short the registration process in a bid to improve the quality of the competition.

“We shall have 16 PlayStation machines to ensure a proper gamer-to-machine ratio,” Lusigi said, adding that there will be 16 active referees for the competition.

The top eight gamers on Sunday will proceed to the Grand Finals that will be held on March 11 at the same venue.
