St. Joseph’s Girls Kitale thrashed Uganda’s Namagunga 13–0 in a lopsided encounter. Star forward Joy Iminza netted six goals, Mary Adhiambo scored a hat-trick, while Audrey Grener and Aphlyne Akoth each grabbed a brace. Elizabeth Mapesa completed the rout with a goal of her own.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport after the match, St. Joseph’s coach John Lusaka said the team remains focused on their title defense despite an opening-day draw.

“We have come to defend our title, and you know, round robin is a marathon, not a sprint. We cannot say our girls started on a false start by drawing; we felt okay with that result.

Our target now is to go for wins in all the remaining matches. We are going to keep our girls in shape so that we are able to defend the title successfully,” said Lusaka.

Tournament debutants Mwiki Girls also impressed, cruising past Mushanga Girls 5–0. Enel Akinyi led the charge with a hat-trick, while Susan Wanjiru and Margaret Nyawira added a goal apiece.

Elsewhere in the girls’ category, Kenyan champions Tigoi Girls beat Kakungulu 2–0, while Ng’iya Girls saw off Bweranyangi by the same margin.

Boys' hockey

In the boys’ competition, St. Anthony’s Boys Kitale staged a dramatic comeback to hold Uganda’s Kakungulu to a 2–2 draw. Kakungulu raced to a two-goal lead through Shafiq Abdul (3rd minute, penalty corner) and Mark Ojok (45th minute).

However, the Kenyans clawed back with goals from Kelvin Onyango (54th minute, field goal) and Delvin Luganyi, who converted a last-minute penalty corner to secure a vital point.

Despite the fightback, St. Anthony’s coach Kevin Lugalia expressed his displeasure with officiating.

“We need to be keen on how the umpires handle our matches. I wasn’t happy with the decisions made, whose intentions were clearly to ensure our opponents won the match,” said Lugalia.

“We are focusing on the next matches, and we hope for the best. In this round robin format, you have to ensure you get maximum points to be on the podium.”

Hockey boys' defending boys’ champions Musingu eased past Ntare 3–0, St. Charles Lwanga Changamwe defeated Kyadondo 2–0, while Mpesa Foundation Academy went down 2–0 to Mbarara.
