Team begins their final campaign for a ticket to the biennial Afrobasket championship on Friday against Senegal before taking on Angola and Mozambique

National men’s basketball side, Kenya Morans are now full house at their camp in Yaounde Cameroon where they are doing final preparations for Afrobasket qualifier matches set to jump-off today.

Kenya will be in action from Friday to Sunday where they take on zone B leaders and favourites Senegal, second-placed Angola and bottom of the table Mozambique in that order over the three days.

Players who were training at Nyayo, with an exception of Griffin Ligare, traveled to Cameroon early Monday morning while Denmark’s duo of Tylor Ongwae and Preston Bungei as well as France-based Joel Awich and Ariel Okal who just signed for Oman’s Al Bashaer Club linked up with the team in Cameroon. Ligare is expected to join the team on Wednesday night.

The Nairobi contingent is reported to have experienced some visa hitches on Monday morning forcing them to switch flights from Ethiopia airlines where they had initially been booked to Kenya Airways.

“We landed safely and all is well. We held a training session on Tuesday morning and were scheduled to play a friendly match against Guinea, who are in group C, on Wednesday but it was canceled as Guinea said they needed time to rest after long training sessions for two consecutive days in Cameroon,” said assistant coach Sadat Gaya.

Kenya missed the services of Tom ‘Bush’ Wamukota and Ligare could only play the last match against Mozambique in the November qualifier window but their availability from the onset of the final qualification process adds to the squad’s depth and tactical ability to face off with the powerhouses.

Awich, who plays for Dax Gamarde in France and Bungei who recently joined Danish side Randers Cimbria will be making their debut for the national team.
