
Genesis Sports reign supreme in Kiambu Aquatics Sprints and Relay Championships

The gala was graced by 444 athletes and 2,221 different entries
Genesis Sports Limited were crowned winners of the Kiambu Aquatics Sprints and Relay Swimming Championships held at Regis Runda Academy over the weekend.
In a record-breaking event that saw up to 31 teams across the counties of Kilifi, Kiambu, Nyeri, Meru, Nakuru, Nairobi, Mombasa and Kajiado, Genesis scooped 64 medals - 32 gold, 22 silver and 10 bronze - to win their maiden gala.
Following them on the podium were Orca Swim Club and Aqua Shark, who totalled 68 and 52 medals respectively.
Led by captain Jeff Mutwiri, Genesis were among teams that had youngsters rise to the occasion, as seen by Wanjiku Samara, a seven years and under swimmer, who won 100m individual medley gold in an impressive time of 2:04.56.
Jedidah Kahindo of Mombasa Aquatics Swimming Club (MAC) also delighted the crowd after timing 1:32.25 in the boys’ 10-11 years 100m individual medley event.
Kahindo is among the swimmers who are already preparing for the upcoming Junior Nationals, where he hopes to secure a spot in the Kenyan team.
Not-new names in the age-group categories - Chris Kibe from Potterhouse School and Nuru Nadia of Aqua Shark - also showed their dominance after winning the 7-8 years 25m backstroke and 8-9 years 25m breaststroke events respectively.
Kibe clocked 39.03 seconds, with Nadia timing 26.19 seconds.
“Swimming is my passion. I train a lot and I am so proud of this win,” Nadia remarked.
Among the other teams that competed in the gala include: Crawford International School, Aga Khan Academy - Nairobi, Loretto Convent, Next-Gen MultiSports Academy, Gliding Dolphins, Beapro Swim Club, Water Warriors Swim Club, Thika Marines, Supermarlins, The Harpoons and Melvin Jones Academy.
The total swimmer entries stood at 2,221, with 444 athletes in participation.
